Hourly rates are based on the fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP) . The rate for a 50-minute session according to factor 2.3 ranges between €134.06 and €167.58. Additional costs incur for biographical anamnesis, diagnostic tools and if necessary, consultations with other healthcare providers . Depending on your individual contract, some private health insurance companies only partially cover the costs. In this case, a co-payment may be required.
In case you opt to cover the cost of therapy out of your own pocket, the therapy remains completely anonymous if desired, as no information is passed on to your health insurance company. This can be useful, for example, if you are planning to apply for a civil service job or if you are taking out life, health or disability insurance. You may be able to claim the treatment costs as a special expense to reduce your taxes.
My practice is not part of the public health insurance system, therefore, I cannot bill statutory health insurance providers.
However, in some cases, therapy for public health insurance holders is still possible through the so-called "reimbursement procedure". It requires proof that you have been actively looking yet not been able to find a suitable therapy place with a therapist approved by the health insurance company within a reasonable period of time (approx. 3 months).
